Single Track Compilations

NOTE: A longer list of single track compilation appearances can be found here.

Never Blow Out The Eastern Candle
V/A – World Domination – 1995 – Osmose Productions – OPCD 032
This Osmose sampler featured the track Never Blow Out The Eastern Candle. This version was recorded on September 16, 1994 during the sessions for The Sun Of Tiphareth, yet it was not on that album due to indefinite reasons. The song was later re-recorded and featured on the In The Eyes Of Ioldánach EP in 1998 and later in the vinyl box set release of The Sun of Tiphareth.

Swords And Leather

V/A  Metal Explosion: Vol. 3  1996 – Adipocere Records  AR ME 03
French Heavy Metal Compliation featuring various Doom, Black and Death Metal bands.

Transylvania

V/A – A Call To Irons: A Tribute To Iron Maiden – 1997 – Dwell Records – DWELLCD-1011

When ABSU was approached to cover an Iron Maiden song, they thought the wisest idea was to reproduce an instrumental piece. Proscriptor did not want to make a fool out of himself trying to either photocopy the voice of Paul DiAnno or Bruce Dickinson, so the band ended up covering Transylvania taken from Iron Maiden’s debut album. Equitant was not able to participate on this recording, so Shaftiel and Proscriptor recorded the song with assistance from Rabicante McDonald. Engineered by Kol Marshall of Nomad Recording Studios.

Of Celtic Fire, We Are Born
V/A – World Domination II – 1997 – Osmose Productions – OPCD 056

This Osmose sampler features the track Of Celtic Fire, We Are Born, which is taken from The Third Storm Of Cythrául album.

The Gold Torques Of Uláid

V/A - Gummo: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - 1997

Movie director Harmony Korine was highly enthralled with the music of ABSU and wanted the band to present the first piece of music for his overly disturbed tour de force: Gummo. The first scene in the movie contains Super 8 mm news footage of a vehement tornado destroying the town of Xenia, Ohio in 1974. The movie’s plot is simply about this town that never financially or psychologically recovered from the destructive twister.  So, ABSU was approached to create a song around this tornado, which was unusual as ABSU had never lyrically written anything contemporary before.  Instead, they took the simple way out and wrote the song The Gold Torques Of Uláid; an Irish epic concerning the barbarian Ross The Red. The movie’s musical director, Randall Poster, enigmatically refused to feature this song in the movie and left it only for the soundtrack. In 2002, Toyota’s advertising department was highly fascinated with The Gold Torques Of Uláid and looked for it to be used in a commercial exclusively in Europe.  However, due to publishing ties lasting with London Records, the song was immediately dropped. This song later appeared on the Mythological Occult Metal: 1991-2001 double-album anthology (2005) as well as a split 7" with Swedish band Demonical.

Swing Of The Axe

V/A – Thrashing Holocaust – 1999 – Necropolis Records

V/A - The Seven Gates Of Horror - A Tribute To Possessed - 2004 - Candlelight Records/Karmageddon Media

ABSU chose to feature the Possessed cover track Swing Of The Axe for this commemorative dedication to the thrash era. Initially, this song was to be included on a Possessed tribute CD released by Immortal Records, but was later released by Karmageddon Media/Candlelight Records. Vincent Rossi at Plymouth Rock Studios, based out of Dallas, Texas, recorded the song in one take.

From Ancient Times (Starless Skies Burn To Ash)
Silvester Anfang/Deathcrush

V/A – World Domination IV – 2002 – Osmose Productions – OPDCD 666
This Osmose sampler features the tracks From Ancient Times (Starless Skies Burn To Ash), which is taken from the 2001 album Tara and the Mayhem cover songs Silvester Anfang/Deathcrush, which was later to featured on Originators Of Northern Darkness: A Tribute To Mayhem on Avant Garde Music.

Silvester Anfang/Deathcrush
V/A – Originators Of Northern Darkness: A Tribute To Mayhem – 2001 – Avant Garde Music – AV046
Roberto Mammarella, founder of Italy’s Avant Garde Music, approached ABSU to be a part of this tribute to Dead and Euronymous. Without a doubt, ABSU’s first choice was originally Carnage, but Behemoth had already selected it. As a matter of fact, ABSU was the last (and, interestingly enough, the only American) band to be a part of the tribute album and did not have much of a choice for available songs. However, Deathcrush was still available, as the band thought it would be most appropriate to cover this track and also decided to include the intro composition, Silvester Anfang, as well. Interesting note: Trym of Emperor provided the lyrics to the band and Silvester Anfang was composed solely by Proscriptor.

Girra's Temple

V/A March Is Metal Month Amazon Sampler  2009

In The Name Of Auebothiabathabaithobeuee

V/A  Zombie Driftwood: The Soundtrack From The Movie  2010 – Candlelight Records/Plastic Head – CANDLE325CD

Movie Synopsis: When a cruise ship full of Caribbean tourists turn into zombies, two metal fans must battle against zombie Armageddon armed only with a baseball bat, booze...and bagpipes. (emetic)

Hall Of The Masters

VideoSingle

Released online via Adult Swim's 2012 Singles Collection. The band also filmed a video for this song directed by Daniel Garcia. The song was later released on the Telepaths Within Nin-Edin 7" EP in 2015 and Hexagrammum Vestibulum die-cut logo shaped EP in 2018.

Stone Of Destiny (For Magh Slecht And Ard Righ)

Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2 - 2016

Movie Synopsis: Ross, Penny and Crash, young outsiders from different tribes, embark on a road trip to a huge punk show. Ross, 19, is the love child of Trish and Heroin Bob, who died before Ross was born. During their odyssey, and with the help of a healthy dose of drugs, alcohol and punk music, Ross shreds his darkly Gothic outlook and embraces life. His mother Trish, who raised Ross alone in her steam punk shop, discovers that he is in a crisis. She recruits his 'uncles,' Bob's old SLC gang, to help find him. When all collide at the concert, they are forced to deal with their unresolved relationships with Bob. ABSU's song appears in the middle of the movie along with such artists as (ironically) David Bowie, Violent Femmes, Love And Rockets, Cocteau Twins, New Order, Rancid and more.

"The Cythrául Klan vaults have now been emptied, the “Rest Of” ABSU is about to be presented to all. Actually, this collection is titled after a coalesced style of Black and Death metal ABSU invented nearly 15 years ago: Mythological Occult Metal: 1991-2001. This dual CD/LP anthology consists of rarities, EPs, covers, live and unreleased tracks which were never featured on the five releases for Osmose Productions. Included are some discarded gems dating back to the band’s earliest songwriting efforts, one of which is the very first EP: The Temples Of Offal. This compilation documents all the phases of the Cythrául Klan and I think this will become somewhat of a treasure among ABSU followers; it’s as if you have total admittance to our musical history. I did this for you because ABSU is currently on hiatus, so don’t expect a new studio album any time soon." - Proscriptor McGovern, June 2005.

This compilation represents the first collaboration project between the webmaster and ABSU.  Find out more here.
